Marbury to Grindley Brook

Map picture

Grindley Brook

What promised to be a wet day grimly hung onto staying dry. We had a lay-in this morning, so not an early start. Marbury lock was against us.

Marbury lockhouse has been sympathetically extended.

The sky was very threatening. But with boats coming the other way the remaining locks were in our favour, until we got to Grindley Brook.

We managed to moor above the locks before the heavens opened, so we had lunch, before walking back down to the locks to have a look around. Some pretty cottages down by the bottom lock.

SAM_1953

Some more cottages at the pound below the staircase locks.

SAM_1954

Lockside Stores & Cafe, beside the bottom staircase lock. We bought some chutney from the stores and look forward to tasting it some time.

SAM_1956

Slightly overfull lock on our return.
